Scientists claim binge drinking is a ‘sexual signal’ which could make men more attractive to women

Scientists have claimed that men use binge drinking as a “sexual signal” to show women their strength, stamina and attractiveness. A recent study suggests that excessive alcohol consumption among young adults indicates “the signaler’s willingness to take risks.” The research is based on the theory of evolution to show that downing alcohol is an “expensive sign,” a physical behaviour or a trait that demonstrates the value of a man as a partner. A famous example of an expensive sign is the peacock tail, which is unsightly and impractical, and still manages to get a person. This could be due to the fact that a man strong enough to avoid predators while being drunk.

The same could be true for men who consume many drinks because they show that they are resistant enough to cope with the physical effects of drinking. “Alcohol abuse among young men is an” expensive sign “for potential couples, so the consumer can withstand the harmful effects of alcohol consumption,” the scientists wrote in an article for Evolutionary Psychology.

Do you know any men who like a few too many on the odd occasion? Well show them this – they could be irresistible to women!
