A security and intelligence expert has gotten many people talking about what the true threat to society is – far right posts on social media or Islamic terrorism.
A UK intelligence expert has warned that the “obsession” with catching potential far-right extremists who pose a minuscule threat is diverting resources from apprehending Muslim terrorists who pose by far a greater threat in both the UK and across Europe.
Colonel Richard Kemp has warned that a desire amongst the political and media establishment to appease leftists and the Muslim community by focusing on a practically non-existent threat from alleged far right terrorists has taken the focus off the real threat that stems from Islamic terror.
Last Saturday a Muslim refugee from Libya stabbed three people to death and wounded three more in an attack in Forbury Gardens in Reading. The murderer Khairi Saadallah is believed to have been on the radar of MI5 because of a tip-off that he wanted to join the Islamic State.
Colonel Kemp said that the police have put a “false emphasis” on right-wring extremism as MI5 is aware of 43,000 people in the UK who pose a potential terrorist threat to the UK, of which around 4,000 are linked to right-wing extremism while tens of thousands are wannabe jihadists.
The intelligence expert told the Mail online:
“The authorities know full well that the far-right extremism is not a major threat in the UK. The reason that it is often spoken about and discussed is that is because it’s a way of appeasing the sort of people that do want to damage the UK, like Islamic terrorists and to a lesser extent the hard left.
Obviously, we have seen far-right people doing some terrible things, but it’s not any way comparable to Islamic jihad or similar to that.”
