A baby that has been described as a ‘miracle baby’ for she was born on the seventh attempt for her parents to have a child after six miscarriages, died after her babysitter left in a hot car.
2-yr-old Zariah Hasheme died after childminder 41-yr-old Tammie Brooks, left her in a sweltering car for at least seven hours on September 17, 2019, police say.
Brooks is said to have forgotten to take Zariah to daycare and left the child in her car in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she went to work at 6:30 in the morning. She claimed that hours later she just remembed the child was in the car.
Police were called to the residence 1:30pm that day, with little Zariah pronounced dead at the scene. Zariah’s distraught parents are absolutely and utterly devasted at the news and told reporters that “it’s just not fair, she killed our baby”.
Brooks has been charged by police with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death, a first-degree felony. She was given $50,000 bail at a court hearing Monday, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 23.
