As part of an inquiry into a possible drug smuggling enterprise off the coast of west Cork, ten individuals are still being held this morning, reports Breaking News.
The mothership, which the Gardaí think was planning to unload a big shipment of cocaine, is being tracked down.
Along with mobile phones, electronics, and PCs, a camper van, an articulated truck, and a RIB were confiscated.
According to The Irish Examiner, the plan involved Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and was an effort by Dutch and Iranian criminal leaders to bring in up to two tonnes of cocaine, reports Breaking News.
Ireland is viewed by criminal gangs as a “point of least resistance” into the European market, according to sources who spoke with the Irish Examiner.
“Ireland is being assessed by them as the point of least resistance due to the publicity over the last year and more about the lack of naval resources patrolling Irish-controlled waters. Hence they are coming this way,” reports Breaking News.
