They’ve had enough – Drogheda residents take to the streets to protest having no water since Friday

The people of Drogheda are fed up and have taken to the streets this evening to show their dismay.

Led by local Councillor Joanna Byrne, residents in the Borough Brugha area of the town claim they have no water since Friday and are doubtful that it’ll return on Thursday as promised by Irish Water.

Frightening scenes of water shortages have been seen throughout the town with council workers manning public water points where people are queueing up with bottles and buckets to bring home.

Scenes of people walking through the streets of the town carrying big bottles of water have now become the norm.

“There’s quite literally no end in sight”, is how one Ballsgrove resident put it when asked when they think the pipe will be fixed.

Locals shops sold out of still water but supplies being transported from as far as Galway.

Irish water claim the pipe will be fixed on Thursday but locals claim they’re just being coaxed along.
