Irish Water and water charges once again take center stage as thousands marched through the streets of the capital today to demonstrate against the charges, and to symbolically ‘bin the bills’.
People gathered en masse and marched from Parnell Square, down the south quays to Parliament Street, past City Hall and on toward Leinster House. There were chants “Whose water? Our water!” and “Back stab bailout, we got sold out!”
Some of the demonstrators made a point of binning their water bills in a rather visible way, keeping in line with the ‘bin the bills’ ethos of today’s march.
Socialist TD Joe Higgins said that ‘the message of nonpayment is spreading.’
