There is more bad news for motorists this morning as M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel users could soon be facing the possibility of toll increases of up to 60 cents.
The hike in toll prices comes after the European Court of Justice ruled that the Irish Government impose VAT on tolls levied on all State-owned motorways.
The news which will most likely not be welcomed by motorists will see the Government being forced to impose a 23% VAT rate on existing M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel toll rates.
The ruling issued by the European Court of Justice comes after a highly contested dispute between the Revenue Commissioners, who say VAT should apply to tolls on State-owned motorways; and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) along with the Department of Transport, who say it should not.
