There will be a treat in store for stargazers tonight as the Perseid meteor shower will be visible over Irish skies tonight.
In a must see event, astronomers say the shower which see a number of shooting stars light up the sky will be most visible between 12am and 5.30am.
The event occurs as the Earth moves its was through debris left by the Comet Swift-Tuttle.
Astronomers say the Perseids which travel at an average speed of 60km per second can be seen from the naked eye and there is no need for binoculars or telescopes.
However they do say viewers can use either to see a more detailed view.
