Treat in store for stargazers tonight as Pink moon is set to light up the skies

There will be a treat in store for stargazers tonight as the pink super moon will illuminate Irish skies.

The so called pink moon won’t actually be pink but it will be brighter than normal as it is at its closest point from the earth.

The pink moon name is derived from the Phlox subulata flowers that bloom in April in the US and Canada.

It is expected that the moon will shine at its brightest at 3:30am Irish time.
