
GardaĆ are questioning a man in his 30s in connection with the murder of a woman near Clifden in Galway.
The man was detained after the body of Masuma Sohrabi was found near an IPAS accommodation centre by Waterloo Bridge, on the outskirts of the village, shortly before 9am on Thursday morning, reports RTE.
Ms Sohrabi, who was in her 30s and known locally as Atijafari, had been subjected to a fatal attack and sustained slash and stab wounds.
The man, who was known to the Iranian mother-of-two, had been receiving treatment in hospital over the previous two days, reports RTE.
He was discharged on Friday afternoon and is now being questioned by detectives at a garda station in the northwest.
He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for questioning for up to 24 hours, reports RTE.
On Friday evening, gardaĆ renewed their appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are asking anyone in the Clifden area ā in particular, on the Galway Road between 2pm on 27 May and 9am on Thursday 28 May ā who noticed anything suspicious to contact them, reports RTE.
Road users and those with camera footage, including home security and dash-cam recordings, from the area at the time are also asked to make this available to investigating gardaĆ.

Around 200 people attended a vigil in Clifden to remember Ms Sohrabi on Friday night.
People prayed, laid flowers and sang the hymn “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace,” with representatives from the Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland present, along with residents of the local IPAS centre, reports RTE.
