A man in his 60s has lost his life following a two-vehicle collision in Co Louth late last night.

The man, who was at the wheel of one of the cars, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which took place on the N53 at Rassan near Dundalk at approximately 10.15pm, reports RTE.

A woman in her 20s, who was a occupant of the second vehicle, was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The man’s remains were brought to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk, where a post-mortem examination is set to be conducted, reports RTE.

The road remains closed for a technical examination, with local diversions currently in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, or any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam), to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station, reports RTE.

The man was the second person to die on Irish roads on Easter Monday, after a man in his 50s died in a single-vehicle crash in Castletownroche in Co Cork.
