Two woman are to be faces for smuggling risk ad campaign

Michaella McCollum and Melissa Reid who have been stuck in a Peruvian jail for trying to smuggle £1.5 million worth of cocaine into England from South America. The twin had been partying in Ibiza when they were asked to be drug mules and smuggle drugs out.

The two women are serving seven years each. Both Melissa and Michaella will be the faces for a new ad campaign to warn people against the danger of drugs smuggling.

They will appear in a Foreign Office TV ad plus many posters and on social media next month.

The two were caught last December in Lima International Airport with the £1.5 million worth of cocaine in their suitcases. They were first sentenced to eight years in jail but due to their guilty plead their sentence has been reduced to six years and eight months.

Melissa Reid, 2o from Scotland, may serve the remaining of her sentence in a prison in Scotland after her transfer application was accepted.
