Tyson Fury to fight in Dublin on August 1st

Tyson Fury has confirmed plans to step into the ring on 1 August in Dublin — one week after Anthony Joshua makes his own comeback.

The two British heavyweights are widely expected to collide in a long-awaited showdown tentatively pencilled in for November, though both fighters appear set to take a warm-up bout beforehand, reports RTE.

Joshua will face unfancied Albanian Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on 25 July — his first fight since being involved in a car crash in Nigeria in December in which two of his close friends lost their lives.

Fury shared a video on Instagram showing him back in training in Thailand, accompanied by the caption: “Let’s go August 1, Dublin, Ireland,” reports RTE.

With promoter Frank Warren already having a card scheduled at the 3Arena in Dublin on that date — featuring a bout between Dubliner Pierce O’Leary and Mark Chamberlain — Fury is set to slot onto the bill.

An opponent has yet to be announced, though Warren has ruled out Andy Ruiz Jr as a potential challenger, reports RTE.

Fury returned from his most recent retirement last month, claiming a victory over Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov, before immediately calling out Joshua, who was present at the fight.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has since stated: “Signed, sealed, delivered! AJ v Fury is on,” reports RTE.
