UK government plays down suggestions that a hard border for Ireland is inevitable

We’re edging closer and closer towards the Brexit deadline to see whether or not the UK will look for an extension and whether the EU will offer one.

Yesterday, a leaked government document predicted a dire ‘shortage of food and medicine’ across the country if a no-deal Brexit becomes fact.

The document hinted at an ‘Operation Yellowhammer’, which is, or was, a secret compilation of issues that the UK is likely to face if the country crashes out of the EU.

Food, medicines, and fuel have been listed as items that may be in very short supply by Christmas, along with hyper-inflated prices.

Long delays at ports of entry, a hard border between the north and the south of Ireland, and widespread chaos are also a likely result of a no-deal Brexit.

However the UK government claim that it was an old document that was leaked and that they’re still hoping no hard border will be put in place on the island of Ireland.
