Ukraine counter-offensive: Russian air force authorities hastily move most aircraft away from Engels air base due to growing threat from Ukrainian long-range drone strikes

Russian air force authorities have hastily moved most aircraft away from the Engels air base due to the growing threat from Ukrainian long-range drone strikes.

The Engels facility, located in the Saratov region has been repeatedly targeted due to its significance. Engels is home to the 121st Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, the 184th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, and the 22nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Division. Aircraft attached to some of these units have been used during the Ukrainian campaign.

But repeated attacks on the base have prompted Russian authorities to realize its vulnerability to Ukraine’s assets, something that Russia could have never believed before. Consequently, most of the aircraft stationed at Engels have been hurriedly flown to a remote area in eastern Russia, well out of the range of Ukraine’s weaponry.
