An eyewitness who was present when a young woman was hit and killed by a police car on Christmas Eve said “never get her out of my head’, reports Metro.

Rachael Louise Moore, 22, was shopping for gifts when she died in a “heartbreaking” crash in Kensington, Merseyside.

Her ‘devastated’ family paid tribute to the ‘caring and loved’ graduate as police watchdog launches investigation.

One of the first people on the scene at Sheil Road described the moment she heard a “bang”.

The eyewitness added that she saw “police picking up all the lady’s Christmas present bags off the floor”, reports Metro.

Emergency services rushed to the busy main road after the crash, but Rachael died at the scene around 8:10pm.

Other people who were there said it was “heartbreaking” that it happened just hours before Christmas.

Rachael’s loved ones posted a photo of her from her graduation.

They said: “Rachael Louise Moore aged 22, cherished daughter of Alison and Ian, sister to Ben and much-loved granddaughter of Nana Sue. Partner to Jack and caring friend to many,” reports Metro.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

A spokesperson for the police station said: “Our sympathies are with Rachael’s family and friends and to all those affected by this tragic incident,” reports Metro.
