All the hidden Irish Water charges are starting to emerge.

If a customer believes their water meter is providing an incorrect reading, Irish Water can have it tested -for a fee, of course. In this case, €100.

If the customer turns out to be right, and the water meter is faulty, the monies would be reimbursed, but how quick and the manner in which the reimbursement would occur remains unclear.

To date, no customer has requested to have their meter tested for accuracy.

Irish Water have also swiftly stated that the meter issue is “separate” form its First Fix Scheme. Under such scheme, the first leak found on a premises will be repaired free of charge.

The company have also released a statement saying that the meters have “proven be very robust in service”, adding that

“The nature of these meters is that if something does go wrong they will under-record, not over-record, therefore it is unlikely that a customer would ask for a meter test if their bill showed high consumption.”
