White House Budget Director Shalanda Young warned in a letter Monday to House Speaker Mike Johnson and other congressional leaders that the United States is running out of time and money to help Ukraine in its war with Russia, reports Breaking News.
President Joe Biden’s administration asked Congress in October for about $106 billion (€97.7 billion) for an ambitious border security plan for Ukraine, Israel and the United States.
Republicans control the US House of Representatives by a slim majority, and funding for Ukraine has become politically contentious among some right-wing lawmakers, reports Breaking News.
In a letter issued by the White House, Young said cutting off the flow of funding and arms to Ukraine would increase the chances of a Russian victory.
“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from US military stocks,” she wrote. “There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money — and nearly out of time,” reports Breaking News.
