Three burglars who broke into a home in Cork city and were pursued by the homeowner until Gardai stopped them have had their sentences halved on appeal.

James Cash (28), of Boot Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, Thomas Wall (23) of Neilstwon Cottages, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 and William Wall (32), of Blacktrench, Newbridge, Co Kildare all were found guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on four counts of burglary committed in the Cork City area on December 1 and 2 2012.

James was handed down a 7-year sentence, with one suspended, while the other two were also sentenced to 7 years each.

On the night in question, the three men broke into a home and took cash and jewellery. They fled by car, and the homeowner gave chase in his own vehicle, alerting gardai via phone and giving directions until the burglars were stopped.

The men successfully appealed their sentences, however, and have seen them reduced to four years behind bars with the last 21 months suspended for Mr. Cash, and four years with two suspended for the Walls.
