A man in his 70s sustained critical injuries when his car reportedly went out of control and hit a tree just off the Rochestown Road, on Cork city’s south side.
The accident happened just before 7pm this evening, and no other vehicle was involved. It is understood the man suffered critical chest and head injuries.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and paramedics fought to stabilise the man before he could be transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
Major disruption to traffic in the area is expected until at least tomorrow morning, as Gardai closed off a section of the Rochestown Road.
