The world’s biggest social media website Facebook has come in for strong criticism in recent days after their website crashed for a number of hours causing thousands of people to voice their disgust, however that is not the only major problem the communication giant is facing as they have also been criticised by millions of people around the globe after a video of young girl’s tragic suicide was allowed to be streamed live and shared thousands upon thousands of times.

The horrifying incident has seen many voice their anger and concerns after the website not only allowed the live streaming of the suicide but they also allowed the heartbreaking video to be shared amongst its users for a number of hours after the tragic event occurred.

The harrowing incident which involves American 12 year old Katelyn Nicole Davis, was broadcast live Facebook Live on December 30th before a large audience has drawn criticism from parents and suicide prevention groups worldwide, with many questioning why and how the incident was allowed to be streamed in the first place.

In the video that has shocked the world the distraught girl from Cedartown Georgia, is seen to end her own life after she revealed that she had been sexually abused by a relative. The graphic footage then proceeds to show the youngster hanging herself in her front yard.

According to various media reports in the US, the video then continues for a further 20 minutes showing the deceased teenager hanging from the tree before a woman intervenes and yell Katelyn’s name off-screen.

A short time later police quickly rushed Ms Davis to the hospital, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the Polk County Medical Center’s Emergency Room.

Meanwhile a Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd told Fox 5 News that police were unaware that the suicide had been broadcasted to social media until later that evening, explaining, “We were actually contacted by a police officer from California who saw it the night of the event.”
