Hundreds line the streets of Dublin last night to protest against the government for the failure in tackling the current homeless crisis

It has been reported that hundreds of people took to the streets of Dublin last night to voice their disapproval against the government for their failures in tackling the homeless crisis.

The protest was held to commemorate the passing of a homeless man named Jonathan Corrie who tragically died across the road from the Dáil one year ago. The protest also comes in the wake of the Taoiseach’s Enda Kenny refusal to rule out raising rent supplement.

Meanwhile the Director of Advocacy with Focus Ireland, Mike Allen has slammed the Government’s refusal to raise rent supplements calling it shocking and a disgrace. Mr Allen told reporters: “You either stop the landlords demanding that, which they have refused to do, or you give people the money otherwise you are simply failing them. “The willingness of the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste just to look at the scale of the family homelessness problem that is emerging in this country and the consequences for those children and refusing to take action is just shocking and horrific.”
