Irish Water have confirmed that hosepipe ban will be put in place in the greater Dublin area beginning from Monday July 2nd.

In announcement, the utility said the ban which will apply to hosepipe and other non-essential water usage will remain in place until the end of July.

It is believed the restrictions which could be extended following a review, comes after water levels in the region significantly dropped during the current heatwave.

Irish Water say the move must be implemented in order to conserve water supplies in the region, they also say anyone who is found in breach of the restrictions will face €125 fine.

The latest developments come as a number of water supplies have also been affected due to the ongoing weather conditions which have seen temperatures rise in excess of 30C.
