Jim O’Callaghan, a Fianna Fail TD, has today postulated that people who did pay their water bill will not get a refund.
This is despite the fact that the charges will cease to exist six weeks after a new Government takes office, as agreed on a recently struck deal between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.
Crucially though, the much-hated Irish Water entity will be retained “as a single national utility in public ownership.”
A Fine Gael TD, Pat Breen, also spoke about water charges this morning. He said that “water charges are live right up to the time when the legislation is put into place, probably in six-seven weeks time. Those who haven’t paid will be pursued, the law will have to be upheld.”
