Outrage on social media over insurance companies hocking up their premiums – especially for young people

Insurance companies have consistently upped their premiums this year across the board, but in particular to younger people trying to get insured for the first time.

Various car groups on Facebook have seen many people complaining their premiums have skyrocketed literally overnight with their renewal policy showing increases of up to 30% per annum compared to their 2015 total.

In particular though, young people seem to be feeling the brunt of the harsh increases.

One 22-yr-old, Patrick Twomey claims he was quoted a staggering €11,200 euro to get insured in a 1.2 litre Renault Clio in his own name.

But it’s not just young people either. According to various posts on the Facebook groups, people with 3, 5 and even 8 years no claims bonus are seeing their premiums soar for no particular reason.

There have been fresh calls for insurance companies to “play fair” with drivers, as they are allegedly “putting people off the road” with tenable premiums.
