Scandalous: New Director General of RTE wants to raise TV licence fee to €320 as ‘it is good value for money’

There will surely be outrage amongst the Irish taxpayer if the new Director General of RTE gets her way by doubling the TV licence fee.

According to The Irish Mirror the new director general Dee Forbes, ha revealed she thinks the price of the annual TV licence should be raised to €320.

The stark revelation comes after Ms Forbes claimed the current charge of €160 is “incredible value for money”. Ms Forbes went onto say that an increase should seriously be considered as it would go along way to restructuring the broadcaster.

Ms Forbes told the paper: “The licence fee is 40c a day. I think it’s incredible value for money. Quite honestly, I think it should be double that.”

“If you look to places like the Scandinavian markets where their licence fee is over double that and you see what you’re getting for that, quite honestly the content is singing.”

“What I’m saying to you is the more money we have to play with content the more we can do.”

However such a move is likely to be frowned upon by the taxpayer as many have complained that the broadcaster does not offer quality programing or comprehensive sports coverage.
