Touching: Huge crowds turn out to mark the removal of The Haunting Soldier

Huge crowds turned out yesterday afternoon in crisp conditions to bid farewell to the beautiful artistic structure that is “The Haunting Soldier”.

Sadly, thugs vandalised the statue earlier in the week but workers managed to restore it to its full glory for yesterday’s ceremony.

Many people brought medals and photos with them, while others took memorabilia from relatives and loved ones who served in World War One.

The haunting Soldier statue is a representation of a soldier returning from The Great War and all those who tragically never returned.

Many thousands of Irishmen fought in World War I and again sadly many never returned.

RIP to them all.
