The Director General of RTE Dee Forbes has issued a call to the Government for increased funding that ensure the future of the broadcaster for the next generation.
Ms Forbes who previously claimed that the TV licence fee should be increased, issued a plea to the Department of Communications calling for more public funding which could subsequently overhaul the ‘inefficient’ television licence system.
The TV licence fee reform call was apparently made as Ms Forbes claimed that the state broadcaster will need more public funding in order to produce quality programming and content across all its platforms.
Ms Forbes who called for a €15 increase to the current fees last July, also said such a move which will inevitably occur from 2019 onwards,would be highly beneficial to the Irish media sector as the extra funding would provide further options
