Tusla, a child and family organisation, has released statistics showing that about 174 children are residing in emergency accommodation throughout the State, reports RTE.

When a kid has to stay in a hotel, bed and breakfast, or rental property because they are unable to find acceptable facilities or foster families, emergency arrangements are established.

According to Tusla CEO Kate Duggan, who spoke on RTÉ’s This Week, referrals have quadrupled to 90,000 in the past year since the organisation was founded ten years ago.

“In 2023, we received almost 250 referrals a day,” she said.

“That was an individual (calling) that was concerned about the welfare of a child,” she added, reports RTE.
