It is widely expected that the Government are to announce a new measure that would prohibit landlords denying rental accommodation to tenants who currently receive rent supplement.
The new measure is being introduced as it is believed that it is fairly common practice for landlords to place rental adverts stating that rent supplement is not accepted, but the government are seeking to make it illegal to enforce such rules. It is thought that the measure will be enforced with an amendment of equality legislation sometime this evening.
The Amendments to the Employment Equality (Amendment) (No 2) Bill is scheduled to go before the Seanad and is due to be published in the current parliamentary term “and the Bill enacted shortly”.
