Caretaker Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that workers might lose their Covid-19 emergency payment if they ‘refuse’ to go back to their jobs, if these are still available post-pandemic.
The payment, currently worth €350 a week, is being paid to almost 600,000 people across Ireland.
Mr. Varadkar recently said that while the payment period might be extended beyond its original June deadline, ‘it cannot last forever.’
This attitude contrasts starkly to that of ministers’ payments, which will not be cut during the pandemic under any circumstances, according to Minister for Finance Paschal Donoghue.
