The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has said that it would be inappropriate for Communions and Confirmations to go ahead given the rise in Delta variant cases.
Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Glynn said that a number of public health professionals are growing concerned with the cluster of cases surrounding such events.
Dr Glynn went on to say that the particular concern would be of the amount of socialising at such events rather than the ceremony itself.
He added that NPHET would prefer that such ceremonies not to go ahead in the coming weeks ahead.
