An eight-year-old girl has died after a car crashed into a girls’ primary school building in Wimbledon, south London, police said, reports RTE.
A 40-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, the Metropolitan Police said.
The London Ambulance Service said its crews treated 16 people at the scene and declared it a “major incident”, reports RTE.
Speaking at a press conference, Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Superintendent Claire Kelland wept as she confirmed an eight-year-old girl had died.
“Very sadly one of the children, an eight-year-old girl, died at the scene. Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly difficult time,” she said, reports RTE.
