The Dublin structure that was going to serve as emergency housing for homeless families caught fire, and the Gardaí are assessing the site as a “crime scene”, reports RTE.
The Ringsend facility was the focus of anti-immigrant demonstrations earlier this month, despite unfounded reports that it was going to be used to accommodate asylum seekers.
Just before two in the morning, a fire broke out at the vacant building on Thorncastle Street that was formerly the Shipwright bar, better known as Sally’s Bar, reports RTE.
About thirty firefighters and six fire engines from Dublin Fire Brigade were sent there. By about five in the morning, the fire had been contained.
During the day, firefighters made their way back to the structure. The use of “thermal imaging to dampen down hotspots after the fire” was reported by the Dublin incident Brigade, reports RTE.
Gardaí said no one git injured in the incident.
