After spending almost twenty-four hours in the ocean, a fisherman from New Zealand was rescued in “an absolute miracle,” according to the police, who used the reflection of the sun off his watch to draw attention, reports RTE.
A shark approached the fisherman to “have a sniff” at one point during his adventure, according to police sergeant Will Hamilton.
Yesterday, after hooking a marlin off the Coromandel Peninsula on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, the man went overboard while fishing alone.
“He endured a cold night in the ocean, too exhausted to keep swimming. During his time in the water, even a shark came to have a sniff, before leaving,” he said, reports RTE.
