It has emerged that the much-vaunted ‘water conservation grant’, worth €100, will not be readily available until September 2015 at the earliest.
The payment is meant to alleviate people’s burden when paying the water charges unveiled today, and will be managed by the Department of Social Welfare. All households that register with Irish Water would be able to avail of this payment.
But by the time this grant is even ready to be applied for, people will have already paid two quarterly bills, in April and July.
It is not clear at this point whether the payment will be in the form of a rebate or a cheque in the post.
