The most hated quango in Ireland, Irish Water, have today released a statement confirming that the expected lifespan of the recently installed water meters is about 15 years.
In reaction to these comments, Fianna Fáil have said that some meters will only be viable for about 10 years after charges come into full effect, and that it is likely that the nationwide installation process will then have to start all over.
This would probably herald a dramatic hike in the charges, which are only set until the end of 2018.
Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess, but the likelihood is that of a substantial increase in water charges to cover new meters, bonuses, etc.
