US President Joe Biden said that he still plans to complete an evacuation from Afghanistan by August 31st, but left the door open for a deadline extension if necessary, but that’s not what the Taliban have in mind.
In a televised address at the White House about the chaotic disaster he created, Biden said that his “hope is we will not have to extend.”
The Pentagon has announced that it is officially seeking air travel assistance from commercial airlines to relocate evacuees from Afghanistan once they leave their country.
The British army said that there’s at least seven people dead at the airport over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Taliban said on Sunday that “hundreds” of their fighters were traveling to the Panjshir Valley, one of the few areas in Afghanistan not yet controlled by the group.
The Taliban warned that people must have left Afghanistan by August 31st or they’ll face the consequences.
