Are you super moon ready? February’s supermoon will be at its brightest tonight

If you look skywards tonight, you might see a brighter and seemingly larger moon. February’s super snow moon will hang in the night sky for the next few hours, giving stargazers an awesome sight.

A supermoon is defined as a new or full moon that almost coincides with its perigee, the moon’s closest point to Earth in its orbit around us. Tonight’s lunar event is one of three super moons in 2019. There was one on January 21, and a third super moon will shine in the sky on March 21.

Tonight’s super moon will be the largest and closest of the series. It gets the name ‘snow moon’ from ancient Native American tribes, as February was usually the month with heaviest snowfalls.
