Irish middleweight boxer Michael O’Reilly has admitted that he unintentionally took a supplement that may have contained a prohibited substance.
A violation of the Olympic doping rules has led to his provisional suspension from the Games in Rio but it is understood that O’Reilly will not contend the decision after this announcement.
A statement this evening says he was given the “supplement by someone unrelated to his team or association”.
It said O’Reilly disclosed, at the time of the test, that he had taken the supplement.
The 23-yr-old apologised to his fellow Irish team members.
