As the doomsday scenario of a potential Fine Gael – Fianna Fail coalition gathers momentum, the latter’s leader, Micheal Martin, has said that he would seek the abolition of water charges before entering into a any coalition with his arch-nemesis, Fine Gael. This is said to be a ‘red-line’ issue for Fianna Fail.

Mr. Martin is also demanding a major package for rural Ireland and the introduction of a €2,000 childcare tax credit in October’s Budget in return for his support.

Fianna Fail TDs would also like to see Enda Kenny removed from Fine Gael’s top echelon before entering into any agreement.
