There are severe water shortages and drought affecting more than 300 million people in India. That is more than a quarter of their population.
Seriously high temperatures in Southern and Eastern India have led to 160 deaths.
Temperatures have been recorded at 45C and are rising.
Most of the people that have been killed in the heatwave were labourers or farmers.
Tens of thousands of animals have died, crops have perished and lakes and rivers have dried up. This in turn, has led to thousands of farmers committing suicide.
Schools closed last week in Orissa and will remain closed for the time being.
People have been urged to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
Monsoon rain is feared to still be weeks away.
