Gemma O’Doherty: The lockdown is hurting people, people should be allowed out to get their vitamin D

Investigative journalist Gemma O’Doherty said outside her challenge of the new lockdown legislation in the High Court that this is a very serious, very grave situation that Ireland faces.

The award-winning journalist said that RTE are putting words in our mouths, while author John Waters said that RTE asked him whether it was conspiracy theory or not.

The pair said that history will look at these days very closely. The rage of 2008 at the collapse of the economy will be similar to this.

Mr Waters said:
Will they said “this court failed” and where will politicians be? We need to be on our guard and we need to rectify anything that happens in that regard as time goes on.

He said that he respects the judge but he cannot say the same for the teams representing the oireachtas and that was gamesplay going on.

He went on to say that this is about pulling the wool over the eyes of public, patronising the public. If this is unconstitutional then it means that the 1947 constitution didn’t mean anything.

Gemma O’Doherty said:
We’re giving the State a chance to do the right thing, this will cost the taxpayer a lot of money.

Many people will be left without jobs, left without homes, bankrupt without their business.

You can imagine the consequences from these laws.

Meanwhile John Waters said:
“What I’m asking the court is a very simple question. What’s the point in having a constitution. What’s the difference between having a constitution and not having a constitution. I believe we have to win.”

Their case continues at 10:30am today in the High Court.
