Government and Dublin City Council splurge on bottled water while expecting everyone else to drink off the tap

Politicians and Dublin City Council officials must have little faith on the capital’s water supply, as expenditure figures on bottled water show.

While this apprehension to drink tap water may be entirely justified, since the plumbing infrastructure dates back to past centuries in some areas, it is yet another example of one rule for the top echelon and another for the masses.

It has emerged that Dublin City Council actually has a yearly budget of €22,840 to provide bottled water to its offices.

At the height of the raging controversy over water bills, politicians spent €4,000 on a “special consignment” of bottled and filtered water for politicians and staff, while every household in the country had water bills shoved down their letterboxes.

Also, council chiefs saw no reason to avoid spending €18,214 on a “large-scale” supply of 20-litre bottles for employees, which equals to an average monthly spend of €1,517.

All the while, the populace is expected to drink whatever brackish substance oozes from their taps.
