HSE launch an investigation after children’s dentist practice is found to have been mistakenly using watered down drain cleaner to clean supplies




The Health Service Executive have confirmed that an investigation is underway after it was revealed on Friday that a number of children had become unwell after visiting a dentist surgery in Ennis Co Clare.

It is has been revealed that an internal investigation has begun at the HSE Dental practice which is located on Bindon Street in the town after an alarming discovery was made which found that dental supplies were cleaned using drain cleaning fluid which was diluted with water.

The discovery was made after 16 children became unwell following a visit to the dentist. Although the children suffered no serious or harmful side effects it has been reported that two children were brought to an emergency department after they became unwell with both complaining of mild irritation in their mouths.

Meanwhile a number of children were taken to their GP after they reported feeling generally unwell.

In response to the incident the HSE have confirmed that an investigation into what happened at the practice is currently ongoing.

They also say they have informed patients about the issue and have advised them to attend their GP if they become unwell.
