Irish holidaymakers warned to watch out for soaring temperatures abroad

Unlike the current winter-like weather that we are enduring here in Ireland, a proper summer heatwave is now sweeping through the continent, with temperatures upwards of 40C.

Yet, such heat may bring about nasty consequences in the shape of severe sunburn and perhaps even skin cancer, so holidaymakers are warned of the dangers of the sun when travelling abroad.

With 850 new cases of melanoma diagnosed in Ireland each year, there is a clear and present danger to be aware of. So pack a good UV protection cream, sun hats, and appropriate clothing, especially for the younger ones in the family.

Intense heatwaves are likely to become more frequent in the coming decades due to climate change.
