‘Make Way Day’ deemed successful in effort to stop people parking cars that block wheelchairs on footpaths

Like anything else in life, if it doesn’t directly you affect you then you can’t really fully grasp the situation, but with this one particular issue – everyone can do their best to solve it.

People who use wheelchairs marked ‘Make Way Day’ at the weekend and said that it was a success. It’s  an initiative that aims to stop motorists from parking their cars too far in on footpaths that prevent wheelchair uses from getting past.

It’s obviously extremely frustrating for wheelchair users if they encounter cars that are parked too far in, they have to double back on themselves and find a rundown so they can go out on the road to get around the car – something that could also prove quite dangerous depending on the location.

The initiative is to raise awareness so that motorists take wheelchair access into consideration when parking so that wheelchair users can remain independent and get around their daily business like anyone else.
