Ministers to ‘voluntarily’ refuse €12,000 pay rise next week

The blatant unfairness and ‘let them eat cake’ attitude taken by politicians in this country was laid bare on Budget Day, after it emerged that our representatives would put out both hands to take a massive pay rise themselves while handing out pitiful crumbs to the rest.

The public backlash was swift and entirely justified, and it has now emerged that ministers will ‘voluntarily’ refuse to accept the massive pay increases, worth up to €12,000 over three years.

However, TDs are also in line to receive lesser rises, to the tune of €5,000 over three years. It remains unclear whether or not these will go ahead.
