More of it – Electric Ireland to significantly raise residential customer prices from July

Electric Ireland is raising energy prices for its residential customers from the start of July.

The utility company, a subsidiary of the State-owned ESB Group, will increase residential electricity prices by 8% from 1 July, while gas prices will rise by 7.7% at the same time.

This will add €138.24 to the annual bill of the average electricity customer and €116.76 to the average gas customer’s bill.

Electric Ireland is Ireland’s largest residential electricity provider, serving 1.1 million customers.

The company said the increases are needed because the conflict in the Middle East has created significant upward pressure on wholesale energy markets. It is the first time it has raised residential prices since October 2022, having implemented three price reductions in the years since.

The move follows a price increase by PrePayPower earlier this month and previous rises by Energia and SSE Airtricity in late 2025.

Pat Fenlon, executive director at Electric Ireland, said the ongoing Middle East conflict continues to drive volatility and significant increases in wholesale energy costs. He noted that the company can no longer delay passing on these sustained cost pressures.

Electric Ireland said it offers a range of supports for customers facing financial difficulties, including flexible payment plans and pay-as-you-go meters.
