Nationalism is on the rise in Greece in the aftermath of the economic turmoil that has racked the country for a decade, that many see as imposed on them by the European Union.

Greece has also been forced to face a massive migrant crisis with little help or support from Brussels or its fellow EU members.

The country also recently held one the largest nationalist gatherings in its capital Athens when over one hundred thousand Greeks rallied in support of the country in it’s 25-year-long dispute with Macedonia, which they feel has stolen Greek identity.

The march has been described as ultra-nationalist and irresponsible by the country’s woefully unpopular progressive government and as rejection of the multi-culturalism of modern Europe.

Like many European countries nationalist groups have their ranks swelled as a result of the economic conditions and migration policies they see as being imposed on them by the EU.

There are fears of serious social disturbances as the violent, alt-left group Antifa, which often attacks those critical of the Brussels elite, has one of their occupied building burnt to the ground by indignant Greek citizens.

The Greek government has moved to suppress and censor this resurgence of nationalist feeling in the country.
